Even with the latest developments in facelift surgery, some practitioners still use the traditional technique developed decades in the past, just removing excess skin and fat, pulling the skin taut, and stitching it closed, which leaves an obvious, tight, unnatural look.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

A deep plane facelift is a groundbreaking surgical approach to facial rejuvenation that can achieve a more natural look than is possible with traditional techniques. The secret lies in the method by which the tissues are repositioned. While excess skin must be removed, how this is performed makes all the difference in terms of creating a natural-looking outcome.

Rather than pulling facial skin tight and closing the incisions with sutures, at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, Dr. Moynihan uses a groundbreaking technique involving low-tension closure for results so natural they are undetectable as being the result of surgery. The difference is dramatic – no one will guess how you manage to look so young!

What can a deep plane facelift do for me?

A deep plane facelift can correct a range of issues associated with facial aging:

  • Jowls
  • Sagging jawline
  • Deep facial creases
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Wrinkles and lines on the lower facial area
  • Fatty deposits and sagging skin on the upper neck

What is a deep plane facelift? Is it really better?

A deep plane facelift targets more than excess skin or fatty tissue – it targets the deeper tissues and muscles to address several underlying reasons for facial aging. Your skin and tissue, including the tissue framework holding the skin in place, or the “deep plane,” begins to lose its firmness and flexibility, causing the skin on the surface to droop and fall. Correcting excess skin, as well as tightening and repositioning the underlying structure, leads to a result that is remarkably natural in appearance – with far longer-lasting results than older, traditional techniques.

Facial aging and a deep plane facelift

If you are considering a facelift, you deserve to have your procedure performed with the most advanced techniques and enjoy a result that brings you confidence. A deep plane facelift can help you to look ten or fifteen years younger and just like yourself – not a surgical patient! With the deep plane facelift, you can enjoy a long-lasting correction that looks like you, beautifully refreshed, rejuvenated, and restored, never unnatural or pulled.

What is the recovery time?

The recovery from a deep plane facelift procedure requires about ten to fourteen days, after which you will be ready to reveal your refreshed look. During your recovery, it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising. Any stitches are removed at one week, with follow-ups at six weeks, three months, and six months.

Initially, your newly positioned facial tissues will be protected with dressings. Dr. Moynihan has mastered the art of facial plastic surgery, and his patients often comment about the ease of recovery. Any pain or discomfort in the early stages can be managed with pain medication, which is typically only needed for a few days at most. One of the most rewarding aspects of this facial rejuvenation surgery is when the client says, “I can’t believe what a change it has made, and my friends cannot figure out how I did it!"
