Achieve glowing, youthful skin in Chicago

Microneedling is a safe procedure that improves the appearance of common skin concerns such as wrinkles and fine lines, as well as blemishes, acne scars, sunspots, and other types of facial scars. It has been performed on clients looking to minimize the visibility of their stretch marks as well as the size of their pores. Considering the numerous skin issues that a microneedling procedure can effectively improve, it comes as no surprise that it remains on top of everyone’s list when it comes to rejuvenating the skin.

How does microneedling work?

A microneedling device, equipped with a set of tiny needles, is applied to the target area to create tiny injuries in your skin. This mechanism stimulates the body’s healing response, sending a signal to produce collagen to heal and repair the injuries. Enhanced collagen smooths the skin and creates a more supple, rejuvenated look once the full results are achieved.

How is microneedling performed?

Before our Chicago microneedling expert performs the procedure, your skin or target areas will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Once the area is numb, the microneedling device is applied to the skin to stimulate collagen production. The procedure usually takes only about 45 minutes to complete. At Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, we use the SkinPen Precision device for all microneedling treatments. Incidentally, the SkinPen Precision device is the only microneedling device in the United States that is FDA-approved.

Elevate your results with exosomes

Exosomes are cellular components that exist outside of your cells. Responsible for communication between cells, exosomes release growth factors and increase collagen and elastin levels in your skin. When applied to the skin as part of a microneedling session, exosomes can improve your results drastically. You can expect to experience more hydrated and brighter skin. Improvements in wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging will be more pronounced. The healing process will also be more rapid, with less redness and irritation following treatment.

What is recovery like after treatment?

Immediately after your microneedling treatment, your skin will appear pinkish or reddish, similar to a mild sunburn. You may also feel slight discomfort, itching, tenderness, or a light burning sensation. Your skin may feel a little tight, dry, or rough. These post-procedure effects will resolve in about three to five days following your microneedling treatment.

Are there any precautions to take?

Dr. Moynihan, a leading Chicago facial plastic surgeon, advises clients to avoid the sun after treatment and refrain from using makeup for the first 24 hours. You will be given specific instructions to follow, so that you gain the most out of your treatment, avoid infection, and speed up recovery.

How many microneedling sessions are needed?

Clients generally see results after a single microneedling session. The number of sessions needed will depend on the severity of the skin issue to be treated, the condition and health of your skin, and your treatment goals. Dr. Moynihan and his team of aesthetic providers will develop a customized treatment plan for each of their clients. On average, clients undergo about three to six sessions to achieve optimal results. These sessions are spaced out, usually at four to six-week intervals, to allow the skin to heal. If multiple sessions are recommended, the provider will create a schedule for each treatment session.
