Men and women who have issues with their nose, whether they’re concerned about the size and/or shape of their nostrils or how humped their bridge looks, are the ideal candidates for a rhinoplasty procedure. Learn all the basics of the procedure here; from rhinoplasty cost to the actual procedure, recovery, and more.

Rhinoplasty Procedure: Overview

Before we delve into how much this type of surgery can cost you, it’s best to first learn about the basics of the treatment.

Briefly, a rhinoplasty treatment is a surgical procedure generally performed by a licensed facial plastic surgeon. It’s important to check the credentials of the surgeon as well as their success rate for this surgery. While revision rhinoplasty is also offered to correct or improve results of a previous nose job, it would be to your benefit to partner with a surgeon with a high success rate for your particular nose concerns to prevent such a costly revision surgery.

There are two rhinoplasty techniques typically performed by facial plastic surgeons: Closed Rhinoplasty and Open Rhinoplasty. With a Closed Rhinoplasty, the facial plastic surgeon will make small incisions on the insides of the nostrils, and from these small incisions, excess tissue is removed, and the cartridge is sculpted according to treatment design.

With an Open Rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes small incision between the nostrils, just at the base of the nose. And from this incision, the excess tissue is likewise removed, and the cartilage is re-shaped. An implant may also be inserted, depending on the specifics of the patient’s treatment plan.

Rhinoplasty Cost

For a lot of patients, the cost of the procedure is their primary concern because in general, a rhinoplasty treatment or nose job isn’t covered by insurance especially if the surgery is for aesthetic purposes. That said, the average rhinoplasty cost in the country is between $5,409 and $5,483. Different states/cities in the country however have different average costs. In general, the cost of the procedure will depend on three factors: location, level of expertise of the facial plastic surgeon, and extent of the procedure. Patients are therefore advised to consider the location of the clinic to get a more accurate estimate.

The average cost of a rhinoplasty procedure in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington, for instance, is between $3,096 and $15,995. In Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, rhinoplasty cost starts at $2,500 and this can go up to $8,000, depending on the details of the procedure.

If you’re looking to have the procedure done in Colorado, you could be looking at spending anywhere between $4,500 and $15,000. Again, this could go higher or lower depending on the details of the procedure unique to your situation.

In a nutshell, actual rhinoplasty cost is a patient-to-patient basis as each one’s needs, goals, and situation are unique.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

First off, since rhinoplasty is an invasive procedure, anesthesia will be administered, which means patients will need to arrange for a ride home since they won’t be able to drive themselves. As for recovery, facial plastic surgeon Dr. Moynihan tells patients that the first 24 hours after surgery are the most difficult.

Patients may experience, pain, bruising, and swelling, which could last between five and seven days. Some patients experience residual swelling for up to 12 months. Appropriate pain medication will be prescribed to help with the pain and discomfort. Five days after surgery, the patient will be asked to return to the clinic to have their sutures and splint removed.

It is important to strictly follow the doctor’s instructions regarding post-op care and recovery to avoid complications, and to help with the healing process.
