5 Tips for a Speedy Recovery After Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one the most popular plastic surgery procedures, but many are understandably worried about what comes after it. The good news is recovering from a rhinoplasty procedure is neither as unpleasant nor as complicated as you might think. What’s more, there are ways to make the recovery process go even more smoothly.

Here are some tips for a speedy recovery after rhinoplasty:

1. Trust your surgeon

Your surgeon knows the ins and outs of rhinoplasty, including how to quickly recover from one. It’s therefore for the best that you pay close attention to everything they have to say. Take any prescribed medications seriously, and strictly adhere to all instructions they give you. Discuss any and all concerns with your doctor, and don’t be afraid to ask for clarifications if you have doubts.

2. Relax

Take a break and allow yourself to relax for at least a week. Avoid anything that will give you mental and/or physical stress, such as work, painful commutes, vigorous exercise, or sports. Stay at home, curl up on your favorite sofa, and read a good book – or binge-watch that television show you’ve been putting off for so long. Don’t forget to get lots of sleep!

That said, you should also do some extremely light exercise as soon as you can. A relaxing walk, for example, will keep a nice, healthy circulation going, which can speed up recovery.

3. Eat the right foods

A nutritious diet is crucial to the healing process, so eat nutrient-rich foods including lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and foods high in fiber.

It’s also important to drink lots of water, as staying hydrated can reduce bruising in the area that’s healing.

4. Avoid the wrong foods

As salt boosts the retention of fluids, it can worsen swelling in your nose. For this reason, you should reduce your salt intake during the first two weeks of recovery. Stick to the low-sodium foods mentioned above.

You should also stay away from foods that will irritate your nose or nasal passages. For example, spicy foods can cause irritation and swelling in your nose, which will likely lengthen the recovery period.

5. Positive interactions with friends and/or loved ones

Spending time with those you’re most comfortable with can also do wonders for your mental health, which can contribute to a rapid recovery.
