I recently had the privilege of undergoing a Breast Lift at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, and I can't speak more highly of Dr. Lukavsky and his incredible team.

I had always had large breasts, but what bothered me most about them was the direction of my nipples. My nipples long resembled “googly eyes,” with one facing down and the other looking up. What are the different types of breast implants?

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water after being placed, which allows for smaller incisions and more customizable volume adjustments during surgery. In the rare event of a rupture, the implant will deflate, and the body safely absorbs the saline solution. While they can be a great option for patients who prefer a firmer feel or are concerned about silent rupture, saline implants may be more noticeable under thinner breast tissue or in very lean patients.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants are pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. This makes them a popular choice for patients seeking a softer, more realistic result. Silicone implants are available in various shapes and profiles, including highly cohesive “gummy bear” implants that hold their shape even if the shell is compromised. One important consideration is that because silicone implants do not visibly deflate if ruptured, routine imaging (such as MRI or ultrasound) may be recommended to monitor their integrity.
