Microneedling Clinic in Chicago: Common Skin Issues

Whether you’re bothered by acne scars or you’re wishing for a more even skin tone, there are non- and minimally- invasive procedures for you to consider. Gone are the days when skin treatments with dramatic results mean going under the knife. For instance, microneedling clinic in Chicago at Gold Coast Plastic surgery offers patients a minimally invasive yet effective treatment for their skin imperfections, especially acne scars and dark spots.

If you’re considering microneedling clinic in Chicago or anywhere else in the country, here are some of the skin conditions doctors recommend it for:

1. Acne scars

First on the list is acne scarring. Acne scars usually form when the patient picks or pops the acne/pimple or leaves an inflamed acne untreated. Acne scars may be depressed scars or they may take the form of a skin discoloration. Both depressed scars and skin discoloration can be corrected by a microneedling treatment. With depressed scars, however, microneedling may not produce dramatic results if the scars are what are considered “ice pick” scars.

Consult a microneedling clinic in Chicago to know for sure whether or not your acne scars can be treated by a microneedling procedure or other treatments are better suited for you.

2. Stretch marks

Stretch marks are those red or white streaks that appear on certain parts of the body, most commonly on the abdomen, inner arms, thighs, buttocks, buttocks, breasts, and hips. Stretch marks develop literally from stretching of the skin. Pregnant women usually develop them on the abdomen (sometimes also thighs). Men may also develop them, usually from excessive weight loss.

Other risk factors include genetics, breast implant surgery, gender (women are more likely to develop stretch marks than men), and certain medical conditions like Marfan or Cushing’s syndrome.

3. Wrinkles and fine lines

Wrinkles and fine lines are a common sign of aging, and they usually start to become noticeable in your 30’s although they generally start to “make their mark” in your mid-20’s (25 years old at least). Fine lines are the first to appear and then wrinkles become apparent by the time you are in your 30’s and 40’s. Sometimes, however, wrinkles and fine lines appear early as a sign of premature skin aging, which is caused by a number of factors, including smoking and prolonged sun exposure.

4. Skin laxity

Loss of skin elasticity is another aging-related symptom. As we age, our body’s collagen levels decrease, resulting in skin laxity, among others. This too, however, could be caused by premature skin aging as well.

Since microneedling stimulates collagen production, patients may notice their skin has become just a tad tighter and firmer after treatment.

Other skin concerns of microneedling patients include age spots or sunspots, large pores, uneven skin tone, and other facial scars or blemishes.

Microneedlin involves using a roller with tiny needles to prick the skin. These “micro injuries” signal the body’s healing response, prompting it to produce more collagen. This is why results don’t happen overnight. You need to wait for your body’s natural collagen production and healing process to kick in before you can see results. Patients usually achieve optimal results by the sixth week following their treatment.
