One of the most common complaints from patients is of hyperpigmentation or “age spots”. While every patient’s skin is different, there are a number of products that can help resurface the skin with no downtime.

Most dark concentrations of melanin can be treated with laser therapy, there are other options for patients who do not want to go under the light. The other recommended option to treat dark spots is hydroquinone, a product that lightens the affected areas. I recommend patients get on the Obagi Nu-Derm system, which includes other elements to help keep the skin vibrant and healthy. Important factors of the system include a toner to stabilize your skins pH balance and a sunscreen to help protect your skin from further damage.

Instead of just treating the affected areas, it is recommended that patients treat their entire face. There is always the risk of underlying damage that we cannot see on the surface. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat along with sunglasses can help to maximize the benefits of keeping the sun from directly hitting your face. Paired with the system, your commitment to the system is paramount. While the system lasts for 18 weeks, it can be customized to your skin’s needs once you consult with our office.
