Q - What is a brow lift?
The brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure which elevates the eyebrows, minimizing the appearance of forehead furrows and creases, frown lines, drooping eyebrows, and hooding over the eyes caused by a low brow position. The result is a more refreshed and youthful-looking appearance. Brow lifts today are commonly performed with the use of an endoscope which involves less scarring.

Q - Who is a good candidate for a brow lift?
Healthy men and women whose brows are set in a low position with an associated “heavy lid look” may be good candidates for the brow lift. Patients with high hair lines may not be appropriate candidates for an endoscopic brow lift and may, instead, be candidates for an open brow lift technique which lowers the hair line post-operatively.

Q - What happens during the brow lift consultation?
During the consultation, your forehead will be examined, your medical history taken, and your goals discussed. All details of the procedure, such as the anesthesia, the recovery, the risks, the costs, and so on, will be explained.

Q - Where is brow lift surgery performed?
Dr. Moynihan performs brow lifts in an outpatient surgical center.

Q - What is the anesthesia used for the brow lift procedure?
Sedation or general anesthesia may be used for the brow lift.

Q - How are brow lifts performed?
For an endoscopic brow lift, three 1.5cm incisions are made behind the hairline. Working through the incisions, the brows are released and then elevated to a higher position. The open brow lift involves a more extensive incision.

Q - How long is the surgical time for the brow lift?
The brow lift takes about an hour to complete.

Q - Where are the incisions made for brow lifts?
The endoscopic brow lift involve three 1.5cm incisions which are located behind the hair line. The open brow lift involves one longer incision also located behind the hairline.

Q - Will I have scars after undergoing a brow lift?
While the brow lift will leave scars, they tend to be well-concealed behind the hairline. The scars resulting from an endoscopic are also very small.

Q - How much pain occurs with brow lifts?
Discomfort after a brow lift is usually minimal and can be managed with medication.

Q - What is the recovery like after undergoing a brow lift?
The recovery after a brow lift takes about one week. Patients should expect some swelling and bruising which will start to fade in about one week. While discomfort is generally mild, medication can be taken to control this.

Q - How much time should I plan to take off from work after my brow lift?
You should plan on being out of work for about one week after your brow lift procedure.

Q - Can I exercise after my brow lift procedure?
Light exercise can usually be resumed within one week after the brow lift procedure, though strenuous activities and exercise will need to be put off for about two weeks.

Q - Are there any risks of undergoing a brow lift?
All surgery carries some risk. For the brow lift, this may include the risk of cosmetic asymmetry and temporary numbness of the forehead which may last for one to three months.

Q - Will my insurance company cover the cost of a brow lift?
Patients will need to check with their own insurer. In general, brow lifts which are solely cosmetic in nature are usually not covered by insurance.
