Botox is a non-surgical injection which may be used to temporarily reduce or eliminate prominent forehead creases, brow furrows, and crow’s feet. Botox is the product name for Botulinum toxin, a sterile, purified protein that is produced in a laboratory from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Botox works by temporarily reducing the function of specific facial expression muscles which result in wrinkles and creases through repeated creasing of the skin. Good candidates for Botox treatment include men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of forehead creases, brow furrows, and/or crow’s feet. Botox has also proven effective in the treatment of migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasm in the neck and eyes.

Dr. Moynihan performs Botox treatments in his office-based facility and the procedure takes just a few minutes to complete. Anesthesia is not necessary, though the treatment area can be numbed prior to the injection. Botox is injected in small amounts into the specific facial muscles, temporarily weakening or paralyzing the muscles. This reduces or eliminates previous skin creasing and prevents new skin creasing.

Botox treatment is associated with minimal recovery or downtime. Though some minor irritation may occur at the injection site, patients are generally able to return to work and other normal activities immediately after treatment. Botox may take several days to take effect, and results typically last three to six months.
